Half Day Rafting/Hidden Canyon Kayak Package
Hidden Canyon
Kayak and Colorado River Discovery are excited to provide a package
trip that gives you the opportunity to experience the beauty of Glen
Canyon from two perspectives, both above and below the Dam. This
package is perfect for people of all ability levels. It will give you
a chance to learn the fundamentals of kayaking from experienced
instructors on spectacular Lake Powell as well as relax and enjoy the
solitude and beauty of the Colorado River.
Trip Description
Your trip
will begin at the Colorado River Discovery Welcome Center at 7:00AM to check in and be given a
brief orientation. River trips begin with an exciting ride down the
two-mile long Glen Canyon Dam access tunnel. With the dam soaring
700 feet above you, you will board a motorized pontoon raft for your
journey downstream, where you will experience one of the most
dramatic stretches of river found in the western United States.
While underway, your experienced guide will tell the area's story of
soaring sandstone cliffs, crystal blue-green waters, abundant
wildlife, former inhabitation by native cultures, exploration by
Major John Wesley Powell, and the Colorado River's modern role in
the Southwest's water and power delivery system.
Your trip will also include a stop to view ancient petroglyphs left
by Ancestral Puebloan peoples. The Colorado River rafting portion of
your trip ends at historic Lees Ferry, where you will board our
vehicle for the short ride back to the Welcome Center in Page.
At the end of your rafting trip you will be greeted with a delicious
Bistro lunch and given your itinerary for the second portion of your
adventure.
The kayak trip will begin at Lone Rock Beach at 1:30PM after a short
drive from the Welcome Center (all participants must arrange their
own transportation from CRD
to Lone Rock Beach). You will
meet your kayak guide and begin your paddle adventure on the shores
of Lake Powell! Your guide will give you instruction on maneuvering
your kayak and let you get comfortable in the calm, wakeless zone
just off shore. As you make your way toward the slot canyons behind
Lone Rock, you will experience the turquoise water and learn about
the human and natural history surrounding spectacular Lake Powell.
As you enter slot canyons of Entrada sandstone carved by millions of
years of erosion, make sure and have your camera ready to take
photos. While out paddling, you can enjoy the sunshine and swim in
the warm lagoon like waters of Lake Powell with old friends and new.
You can choose between our fast and sleek sea kayaks or our more
comfortable and stable sit-on-top kayaks. Your trip will end around
4:30PM after a great day of rafting and kayaking in spectacular Glen
Canyon.
